Due to the crude soybean oil obtained from either the cooking oil pressing plant or the solvent extraction plant contains a certain amount of useless impurities. Therefore, the crude soybean oil needs to be refined and purified through a refining process.
From crude soybean oil to standard cooking oil needs to go through four basic stages of degumming, deacidification, decolorization and deodorization.
1. Degumming
In this step, we add hot water to dissolve colloidal impurities in crude soybean oil to remove excess phospholipids and make the color more vivid and obtain purer soybean oil;
2. Neutralization
Due to the crude oil after degumming still contains excessive free fatty acids, we need to add alkali to deacidify, let out the soap stock after settling and obtain acid-base neutralized refined soybean oil;
3. Decolorization
Then, we add white clay as an adsorbent to remove pigment in the crude oil and filter with a leaf filter after full reaction to improve the color of the oil and to obtain refined bleached soybean oil.
4. Deodorization
Finally, the odor and part of free fatty acid in crude soybean oil were removed by distillation to improve the quality of the soybean oil further and obtain edible soybean oil.
