Alkali Refining Process
The crude oil is neutralized as a first process, that primarily involves the treatment of crude oil with an alkali. Soap separation follows in order to remove soap from the oil. Hot water is subsequently employed to wash the soap-separated oil to remove the soap traces from the oil followed by a drying process to evaporate the moisture of the oil.
Gums conditioning & Neutralization
Groundnut oil is first treated with citric acid and followed by caustic soda lye to neutralize the fatty acids and condition of phospholipids. The neutralization reaction produced the sodium salt of fatty acids which was removed through the centrifugal separator and clean oil washed with hot water to remove the traces of soap.
Washing
Neutralized oil was treated with hot water and separated through the centrifugal separator to remove the traces of soap from the neutral oil.
Drying
Removal of moisture under vacuum.
Bleaching
“Bleaching” is a process of selective removal of pigments and impurities by the physical and chemical interaction of an adsorbent with an oil or fat to improve its quality.
